Size
With so many ways to narrow down your options, sometimes it’s best to start simply and quickly rule out models that absolutely won’t work for you. For example, everyone has certain size limitations, so start by figuring out what yours are. Think about how many beds you’ll need to accommodate your whole camping party and make sure you’re looking at models that have at least that many beds, if not more for guests.
Also, consider what’s simply going to make you more comfortable. Some travelers love cozier settings because there’s less upkeep and it’s easier to tow. But others might find this lifestyle a little too cramped and, even if they don’t need the extra space, they might want it. Don’t go smaller just to save money. It’s the fast track to buyer’s regret.
Hitch
When you’re looking at trailer options, you’ll probably be looking at two different hitch types. Firstly, and most abundantly, there’s the bumper pull hitch, which juts out behind the tow vehicle and creates a gap between the two parts of the unit.
Secondly, there’s the fifth wheel hitch, which–as the name suggests–only shows up on a fifth wheel. The hitch is installed directly into an open bed, like you might find on a pickup, and creates a little more stability for the driver to accommodate the extra size and weight that fifth wheels often come with. You’ll want to think about which hitching option is better for your primary driver and talk to them about what they’re going to be comfortable with.
